Alfred, NY (9-30-12) – The Utica College women's tennis team lost Saturday afternoon, 9-0, on the road to Empire 8 foe Alfred University.  Freshman Melanie Guzman (Augosta, ME/Cony ) battled Alfred's No. 1 Emma Jackson in singles competition however lost 7-5 and 6-4, respectively.

The Pioneers fought in every match but couldn't gather up a point. Sophomore Heather Brisson (Azusa, CA/Azusa) lost to AU's Catherine Spencer in the fourth singles match 7-5 and 6-2.

Junior Elise Pepe along with freshman Rose Zaloom (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) and Doni Look (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) each tallied three points in their singles match however could not muster a win.
In doubles competition, senior Jennifer Persio (Cheshire, CT/Tilton ) and
Zaloom teamed up to score five points before losing to Saxons Catherine Spencer and Emily Eisenburg.

The Pioneers are now 1-5 on the season and 0-4 in the E8 while AU moves their overall record to 5-6 while 2-4 in the conference.  UC returns to the courts Sunday as it travels to Rochester, NY to face Nazareth College for a 1 p.m. scheduled start.
