Alyssa Filkins and the Pioneers look for their first win against Ithaca in three years
Utica, NY (1/7/13)- The Utica College women's basketball team returns to action Tuesday as it hosts league leader, Ithaca College. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.
Last Time Out: UC is coming off two Empire 8 Conference victories over the weekend… On Friday, the Pioneers topped St. John Fisher College 73-69 in overtime behind 23 points from freshman
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle)… The Pioneers followed that up with a convincing 82-58 win over Alfred on Saturday… Senior
Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) totaled 43 points and 30 boards on the weekend.
Where We Sit: Utica is currently 7-6 overall (3-1 Empire 8) and third place in the conference standings… UC has outscored opponents 800-764 through its 13 games this season.
Miceli Continues to Shine: Freshman
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) is making quite a name for herself so far this year… Miceli is second on the team and 16th in the conference with 146 points… She has netted 59 points in the last three games and is averaging 11.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
Double Vision: Senior
Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) has registered double-doubles in each of her last two games to bring her season total to six… She leads the team and ranks fifth in the Empire 8 with an average of 15.5 points per contest… She is second in the conference with a 52.5 field goal percentage and is fourth with 8.5 rebounds per game… She needs just seven points to surpass Devon Croll '11 for fourth place on the College's all-time scoring list (1,321 points).
“Rock” Solid: Freshman
Racquel Baudanza (Staten Island, NY/New Dorp) has netted 38 points in her last three games… The point guard has 75 points on the year off the bench for UC… She is second on the team with ten 3-pointers and has sunk 23-of-31 (74.2%) from the line.
Scouting Ithaca: The Bombers are 10-1 overall and sit atop the conference standings with a perfect 3-0 record in Empire 8 play… They are coming off an E8 sweep of Alfred and Fisher last weekend… On Friday, Ithaca topped Alfred 75-39, before defeating Fisher 48-43 in overtime on Saturday... Ithaca is led by junior Kathryn Campbell who is averaging 13.6 points and 4.5 boards per game.
Against the Bombers: UC is 5-12 against Ithaca in the last seven years… UC fell to the Bombers twice last season by scores of 61-29 and 46-40… The last time the Pioneers beat Ithaca was a 38-37 win in the Empire 8 Championship game on Feb. 27, 2010.
Looking Ahead: Utica returns to action Friday as it travels to Houghton College to take on the Highlanders… Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
