Box Score Elmira, NY (10/19/13)- The junior class led the way as the Utica College field hockey team downed host Elmira College 3-2 in Empire 8 field hockey action Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Pioneers secured the number two seed in the conference tournament. 

Elmira jumped out to an early lead in the first three minutes of the contest, however Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) netted her 13th goal of the season, unassisted to even the game.  Elmira went ahead in the 24th minute as Alli Gilbert tallied her second goal of the game to send the Soaring Eagles into the locker room with a 2-1 lead at halftime. 

Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) and Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) each added a goal in the second half to secure the Pioneers' 11th win of the season, including their fifth in the conference.  Mackey also added an assist to extend her team lead in points with 33.

Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made five saves in the win for Utica, while Lauren Thomas had 11 saves in the loss.

Utica will wrap up its five-game road trip on Wednesday as it travels to nearby Clinton, NY for a match up against Hamilton College… Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
