UC Fights Hard But Falls Short Against Naz

Senior forward Sarah Southwell netted the Pioneer goal
Box Score UTICA, NY (October 26, 2013) – The Utica College women's soccer team lost to visiting Nazareth College 3-1 in an Empire 8 Conference contest on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Saturday night.  The contest was televised across New York State on the Time Warner Cable Sports Channel.   If you missed the live airing of the game you will be able to watch the replay Sunday night at 10 p.m.

Nazareth jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the contest, but the Pioneers cut their deficit in half, 2-1, when senior forward Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) finished a goal on the door step in the 19th minute.  Alana Fitzpatrick (Cheshire, CT/Holy Cross) was credited with an assist on Southwell's team-best fifth goal of the season.

Nazareth's Elisa Marchione netted an insurance goal for the Golden Flyers in the second half to help lock up the two goal victory.  Naz advanced its record to 10-4-2 overall, while the Pioneers dropped to 3-11-2.

Utica freshman keeper Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) made eight saves in net, including three goal-saving stops to help keep the Pioneers within striking distance.

Michaela Soules played a part in all three of the goals for Nazareth, assisting on the first and third goals while scoring the second.

The Pioneers will wrap up their 2013 campaign at home on Saturday as they host Bard College for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
