Oneonta Downs UC in Non Conference Action

Utica's Bridget Greenwald netted 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Pioneers
Box Score ONEONTA, NY (November 19, 2013) - The Utica College women's basketball team dropped a 59-43 decision at host Oneonta State on Tuesday night.  The Pioneers were led by 11 points and nine rebounds from Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), while sophomore Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) added a team-best 14 points and five rebounds.

The Pioneers (0-2) return to action on the road Thursday night when they travel to RPI to take on the Engineers in non conference action at 6 p.m.

Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) chipped in with four points, five rebounds and two assists, while Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville), Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) and Kelsey Cowell (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) each added three poitns off the bench for Utica. Carty added six rebounds and Cowell chipped in with five of her own.

Alyshia Crawford netted a game-high 18 points for Oneonta (3-0), while Grace Schilling and Brianna Spector added eight points each. 

UC struggled shooting, going 34% from the floor, 18.2% from 3-point land and 39.1% from the charity stripe.

The Pioneers fell into an early hole, managing only 17 first half points as they trailed by 12, 29-17, as the halftime horn sounded. In the first 4:30 of the game the Red Dragons opened up a 14-2 lead.

UC cut their deficit to just eight points early in the second half, but a 12-3 run by the home squad midway through the second half pushed the Red Dragon advantage back to 17 points. 

Utica dwindled that lead down to ten points with 9:05 remianing, but Oneonta stood its ground and preserved the double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest to earn the victory.
