Box Score Troy, NY (11/21/13)- The Utica College women's basketball team used 47 points in the second half to cruise to an 81-73 victory over RPI Thursday evening for UC's first win of the season. Six different players scored in double digits for Utica.
The Pioneers went on an 8-0 run to open the game and led 18-8 just 4:16 into the contest. However the Engineers fought back, scoring 23 points over the next 7:35 for their first lead of the game. Both teams traded baskets but it was RPI that went into halftime with a 43-34 ledger.
UC slowly chipped away at the Engineer lead until 10:50 in the second half when
Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) sunk a three to give the Pioneers a lead they would not relinquish. Carty finished with 11 points and six boards on the evening. Senior
Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) had her first double-double of the year with 13 rebounds and 14 points. Junior
Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) also knocked down 14 points and added three assists. Sophomore
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) had 11 points and four assists to go along with four boards. Junior
Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville) also chipped in with ten points, including shooting 5-of-6 from the line. Freshman
Kelsey Cowell (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) also had an impressive evening totaling nine rebounds, seven points and a game-high five dishes.
Ashley Clough and Amanda Lynch led the way for RPI. Clough netted 20 points and added ten boards, while Lynch has 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. The Pioneers improve to 1-2 on the season, while RPI drops to 1-2. UC returns to action Saturday as it hosts Sage for Utica's annual Faculty Appreciation Game. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
