UTICA, NY (12-2-13) – The Utica College women's basketball team hits the road for back-to-back games this week against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and local rival SUNY Institute of Technology.
TIME & PLACE: On Tuesday, UC heads to North Adams, MA to face the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts for a 6 p.m. tip-off … The contest will take place at the James T. Amsler Campus Center Gym on MCLA's campus … The Pioneers then head across town on Thursday to face local rival SUNYIT in Marcy, NY … Tip-off for Thursday's game is set for 5 p.m. at the Campus Center Gym.
UC WRAPS UP ROAD STRETCH: Utica currently holds a 2-3 overall record including a 1-1 mark at home … After losing back-to-back games, including a one-point home opener loss to Potsdam, UC bounced back with consecutive wins over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, on the road, and the Sage Colleges at home … The Pioneers most recently lost to cross-town foe Hamilton College, 60-44, at the Scott Field House in Clinton, NY … These two road contests wrap up a 5-of-7 stretch away from home … UC will then host four of its next six games at the friendly confines of the Clark Athletic Center where they have posted a 39-22 ledger over the last five years.
MICELI THE MAGNIFICENT: Sophomore standout
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) is off to an impressive second-year campaign at point guard for the Pioneers … She is leading the team in all major categories including points (18 p/g), assists (2.2 p/g), 3-pointers made (12), free throws made (18) and minutes played (39.6 m/g) … Miceli opened up the season with a career outing as she dropped 42 points against Potsdam where she shot 15-of-28 from the floor and 5-of-10 from downtown.
GREENWALD NAMED ATOW:
Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) was named the College's Female Athlete of the Week last Monday after guiding UC to a 2-1 week while averaging 11.0 points and 12.7 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.0 assists per contest … She tallied 14 points and added 13 rebounds as the Pioneers' defeated host RPI 81-73 on Nov. 21st … She added 16 rebounds (12 defensive), eight points and six steals in the Pioneers' 60-59 win over Sage on Nov. 23rd … Bridget shot 46.4% (13-of-28) from the floor for the week and is currently averaging a double-double this season with 12.5 rebounds and 10.3 points per game … She also has a team-best 14 steals in four games and has 19 offensive rebounds while shooting 45.9% from the floor (17-of-37).
MEET THE TRAILBLAZERS: MCLA is presently 2-4 overall this season including a 0-2 mark at home … The Trailblazers opened up the season with an 80-57 loss to Endicott College at the Keene State Tournament before beating Green Mountain, 79-17, in the consolation game … Massachusetts then dropped back-to-back contests to Western New England and Daniel Webster prior to collecting its second season win on the road against Becker College … The Trailblazers most recently lost to Williams by 38 points, 81-43, on their home court.
CROSS-TOWN "CATS': SUNYIT currently maintains a 2-2 mark overall and on the road … The Wildcats will have two more games at Wells and Cazenovia before their long-awaited home-opener against the Pioneers on Thursday, Dec. 5th … SUNY won its season-opener at the Ramapo Invite in Mahwah, NJ against host Ramapo, 65-53, and went on the championship game only to lose, 74-64, to Arcadia … The Wildcats then got pounded by 40+ to upstate power Cortland State, 89-46, before bouncing back with a seven point victory at Cobleskill, 77-70.
BACK HOME: Following this week, UC returns home next Tuesday, Dec. 10th in its final contest of the 2013 calendar year as it welcomes Liberty League opponent Union College … Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Harold T Clark Athletic Center … Union presently occupies a 4-1 overall record with all four wins coming by an average of just five points … The Dutchwomen lost to Empire 8 opponent Hartwick and before beating St. John Fisher in Rochester, NY.
