Women's Basketball Downs MCLA in Non-Conference Action

Box Score North Adams, MA (12/3/13)- The Utica College women's basketball team got back on track Tuesday night as it defeated host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 68-49, in non-conference action.

Three players scored in double digits, including two who recorded double-doubles to pace the Pioneers. Freshman Kelsey Cowell (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) had a career day, collecting her first collegiate double-double with a season-high 17 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) brought down a game-high 14 boards and added 14 points of her own, and sophomore Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) had 13 points, four assists, and three steals.

Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) and Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) combined for 15 points and 12 boards off the bench, while Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville), Monica Makuch (Brownville, NY/General Brown), Stephanie Beck (Leyden, MA/Pioneer Valley), and Adriana Surprenant (Utica, NY/New York Mills) also chipped in on the offensive end. UC jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first ten minutes of play, and led by as many as 16 at one point in the first half. The Pioneers kept the pressure on, scoring nine straight points to open the second half.

UC improves to 3-3 on the year, while MCLA drops to 2-5. The Pioneers return to the hardwood Thursday as they take on cross-town rival, SUNYIT. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
