Women's Hoops Downs SUNYIT in Cross-Town Clash

Box Score Utica, NY (12/5/13)- The Utica College women's basketball team downed host SUNY IT 71-56 en route to its second straight win Thursday evening in non-conference action. Senior Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) recorded her fourth straight double-double to lead the Pioneers.

Greenwald netted 13 points and brought down a game-high 16 off the glass. Freshman Kelsey Cowell (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) had another strong performance, ripping down 15 boards, including nine on the defensive end, and added nine points to go along with her team-best three steals. Junior Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) netted a season-high 18 points and added seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Juniors Marissa Kahane (Sayville, NY/Sayville) and Adriana Surprenant (Utica, NY/New York Mills) combined for 21 points and six boards, while Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle), Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk), and Calypso Carty (Pipersville, PA/Central Bucks West) also chipped in on the offensive end.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the first minute and led by as much as 19 at one point to take a 51-37 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Pioneers continued their dominance in the second half, and did not trail after the first minute of the game, on their way to their fourth win of the season.

Lauren Knowles led the way for the Wildcats, collecting 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Abbey Hanehan had 14 points and Geena Gallo added 13 on the night.

The Pioneers (return to action Tuesday to host Union College in their last game before the winter break. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
