Women's Hockey Falls to Buff State in Overtime

Junior Caitlyn Moccaldi netted the lone goal for the Pioneers
Box Score Buffalo, NY (2/10/13)- The Utica College women's ice hockey team fell to Buffalo State 2-1 in overtime in its final ECAC West Conference game of the regular season, Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period, junior Caitlyn Moccaldi (Clinton, NY/Clinton High School Boys) gave the Pioneers the lead at 15:44 of the second period.  Classmates Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) and Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) assisted on Moccaldi's second of the year.

The Bengals evened the score at 15:02 of the third as Nikki Kirchberger netted her seventh of the year, assisted by Jen Seguin and Melissa Ash.

Ash was able to net the game-winner with just five seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Bengals over UC.

Buff State improves to 6-16-1 (3-11 ECAC West) while Utica falls to 12-8-2 overall and 9-5-2 in the conference.  Jordan Lee stopped 32-of-33 shots for Buffalo State, while junior Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) made 19 saves for UC

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they host SUNY Cortland for the first ever “Gold Ribbon Game” for childhood cancer awareness.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
