Utica, NY (2/12/13)- The Utica College women's hockey team used three first period goals to down SUNY Cortland, 5-2, in its childhood cancer awareness game Tuesday night at the Aud.  Junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) netted two goals to collect her 100th career point, while sophomore Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean) also scored two goals and senior Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) racked up three assists.

Myers opened the scoring at 3:35 of the first period as she skated in on a partial breakaway.  Myers made a nice move to beat the defender and get around the goalie for her team-leading 15th goal of the season.  Senior Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) assisted on the tally.  Just under a minute later, Junior Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) netted her third of the year off assists from McMahon and Dowdall.  Dowdall closed out the first period scoring at 8:02 as she put in her sixth of the year, assisted by McMahon and DelleChiaie.

Cortland got on the board at 2:55 of the second period as Laura Drew beat Utica goalie Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro).  Gina Tomei and Maggie Giamo assisted on Drew's third of the year.  The Pioneers stormed back, scoring two goals in 26 seconds to add to the lead.  First, McMahon found Dowdall in front of the net, who fired a shot right under the cross bar for her seventh of the season at 7:07.  Then, Myers hooked up with Johnson and Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) for her second of the game and 16th of the season.  The Red Dragons capped off the scoring at 12:06 as Chelsey Wright snuck one passed Hotaling for her seventh of the year.

Myers joins All-Americans Deana Weigand '07 and Stephanie Price '07 as the only 100-point scorers in program history.
Hotaling stopped 17 shots, while Deanna Meunier made 28 saves for Cortland.  Utica improves to 13-8-2 while Cortland drops to 6-14-1.

The Pioneers and the Shawn Grady Fund also raised $2,010 to donate to the McLaughlin family of Barnevald to help ease its medical costs.  8 year old Alex McLaughlin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August 2011 and will undergo chemotherapy treatments through 2014 as he courageously battles this disease.

UC returns to action this weekend as it travels to Owings Mills, MD for a two-game set against Stevenson University.  Saturday's game will be at 5:30 p.m. while Sunday's will start at 12:45 p.m.
