Utica, NY (3/22/13)- The Utica College men's lacrosse team looks for its third straight win Saturday as it welcomes SUNY Potsdam to the friendly confines of the Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Face off is set for 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: UC is coming off a 16-4 win over Vassar College on Wednesday… Senior Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) had a game-high four goals, while classmate Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) had two goals and three assists… Freshman Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) also added a career-high five points (three goals, two assists) in the win… Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy), David Craig (Brewerton, NY/Paul V. Moore), and TJ Benson (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) each netted two goals and Andrew Jamieson (Six Nations, ON/Hagersville) chipped in with a goal and an assist.

By the Numbers: UC is currently 3-1 on the season… The Pioneers have outscored opponents 56-21 over the course of four games… Utica is averaging 14 goals scored per game, while allowing just 5.25 goals by the opposition… The team has converted on 10-of-28 man-up opportunities while allowing just one goal on 26 attempts while down a man.

Around the Nation: The Pioneers rank 13th out of 203 teams in scoring defense, while they are 19th nationally in scoring offense… UC is also 12th in points per game…  Schoen is 20th in assists per game (2.67), while Winkler's 3.33 goals per game place him 23rd nationally… Zack Stevenson (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) is 33rd in faceoff win percentage (62.5).

Class of '13 Leading the Way: Seniors Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC), Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School), and Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy) lead the team in scoring… Winkler has a team-high 17 points on 12 goals and five assists, while Baron (seven goals, five assists) and Edelstein (nine goals, two assists) rank second and third, respectively.

Helping Out: Junior Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) is tied with Edelstein with 11 points on the year… He has a team-best nine assists through the four games… Freshman Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) rounds out the top five scorers… The midfielder has ten points (seven goals, three assists) on the season and six in his last two games. 

In the Crease: Freshman Trey Adams (Hogansburg, NY/Brewster Academy) has started three games for UC while compiling a 2-1 record… He is fourth in the Empire 8 with a 6.88 goals against average and has also compiled a .500 save percentage… Classmate Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) has also had some time in net, playing 94 minutes so far… He is 1-0 on the season and leads the conference in both save percentage (.750) and goals against average (3.82). 

Scouting Potsdam: The Bears are 2-1 so far and coming off a 14-5 win over Hartwick last Saturday… 11 players have registered at least one goal on the year… The team is led by junior Derek Frost who has six goals and five assists.

Against the Bears: UC is 2-2 against Potsdam dating back to 2004… Last year Utica suffered a 10-9 loss at the hands of the Bears… Winkler had six goals on the day, while Baron added a goal and an assist… The last time the Pioneers defeated Potsdam was a 24-7 win on March 11, 2005.

Looking Ahead: UC opens up Empire 8 Conference play on Wednesday as it travels to Nazareth College… Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
