Softball Drops 2 on Final Day in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kissimmee, FL (3/22/13)- The Utica College softball team dropped both games on its final day of the Rebel Spring Games.  UC fell to Rowan University 6-0 in the first game, before suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to McDaniel in game two.

Game One:
The Profs scored one run in the second inning as freshman Shilah Snead walked with the bases loaded to take a 1-0 lead.  Rowan exploded for four runs in the fourth starting with a two-run shot to left by Alysa Romero.  Rowan added two more runs after a wild pitch and a passed ball.  The Profs added a final run in the sixth to cap off the scoring.  Rowan moves to 13-3 on the season. 

UC managed just three hits on the day, one each from sophomores Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) and Alex Deyo (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central), and freshman Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville).  Senior Dominique Carcone (Frankfort, NY/New Hartford) had one stolen base on the day.

Game Two:
The Pioneers got on the board in the first as senior Bridgette Plummer (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) doubled to score junior Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker).  Then in the second, sophomore Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) hit a two-RBI single to bring home Dominique Carcone (Frankfort, NY/New Hartford) and Taylor Ellis (Willet, NY/Greene).  Senior Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) capped off the scoring in the fourth she hit an RBI single, scoring Chelsea Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown).  The Green Terror began to mount a comeback scoring one run in each the fifth and sixth inning.  McDaniel added three runs in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead.  The Pioneers were unable to get a runner on base in the bottom of the inning and fell to 5-5 so far on the year.

Carcone went 3-for-4 with one run scored, while Ingalls was 2-for-3 with one RBI.  UC also got hits from Matan, Plummer, Traglia, Fitzgerald, Russell, Ellis, and Cassie Smith (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central).  UC returns to action Tuesday as it travels across town to take on SUNYIT in a double-header.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
