Ithaca, NY (4-14-13 – The Utica College baseball team was swept by Ithaca College Sunday afternoon, 13-3 and 8-0, in Empire 8 Conference play. The three-game series was moved from Utica, NY to Ithaca, NY Saturday due to inclement field conditions. UC was led by seniors
Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and
Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville). Podlucky tallied two hits, one run scored an one RBI while Dunbar drove in three runs on the day.
The Pioneers fall to 1-13 overall including a 0-5 mark in the E8 and return to action Wednesday as they cross town to face SUNYIT in a twilight doubleheader in nearby Marcy, NY. First pitch of game one is set for 2 p.m. The Bombers move their overall record to 23-4 and remain undefeated in Empire 8 action with an 8-0 ledger. IC hits the road for back-to-back double headers in Rochester, NY this week as they face the University of Rochester on Tuesday (6 p.m.) then The College at Brockport on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
Ithaca 13, Utica 3 - Game One Final
Ithaca took an early five run lead in the top of the first and never looked back. The visiting hosts tacked on three more scores in the top of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead before the Utica offense woke up. The Pioneers finally got on the board in the fourth with two runs on a walk, double and ground out. Sophomore
Nick Perkins (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) walked to start the inning before senior
Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) roped a double to right field, scoring Perkins. Podlucky advanced to third and later scored off a senior
Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) ground out. Ithaca answered with five runs on four hits and one Utica error in its next at bat to take a commanding 13-2 advantage. The Pioneers converted one more run before IC wrapped up the game one victory, 13-3.
Sophomore
Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ) falls to 0-1 on the season as he threw four innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits and two walks. Ithaca's Wagner tallied the win for the Bombers and is now 7-0 this year.

Game Two Final
After a quiet first inning, Ithaca jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on three hits, an RBI fielders' choice and a two-out RBI walk. The Pioneers defense battled over the next three innings, allowing just one run however could not muster any offense as the Bombers carried a no-hitter until the seventh. After trailing 4-0 headed into the sixth, UC gave up six runs with the help of three walks, two errors and just two hits to cushion Ithaca with an 8-0 advantage.
UC broke up the no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the seventh as junior
Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) ripped a double to left center. Sophomore
Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ) advanced to third on the Choleva hit after drawing a one out walk. Senior first baseman
Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) followed with a two RBI rope to left center, scoring Choleva and Burillo, to get Utica on the board before the Bombers closed out the three-game weekend sweep.
Four Pioneers completed the game two, rotation including junior starting pitcher
Anthony Johnson (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) who was tagged with the loss falling to 0-2 on the year. Johnson tossed 3.2 innings allowing four runs, four hits and four walks. Freshman
Joshua Webb (Verona, NY/VVS) relieved Johnson and gave up three runs on four hits before freshman
Ronald Mannella (Albion, NY/Albion) and sophomore Christopher Wooten closed out the defeat.
