Elmira, NY (4-20-13) – Four Pioneers including Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School), Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy), Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) and TJ Benson (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) tallied hat tricks to lead the Utica College men's lacrosse team to a 15-7 win over Empire 8 Conference rival Elmira College Saturday on the road.  Edlestein, Jacobs and Winkler also added two assists each in their five point performances.

The Pioneers move their overall record to 8-5 including a 3-3 mark in the Empire 8 and return home Wednesday to welcome cross town foe Hamilton College for the fourth annual Contineer Cup.  Face-off is set for 5 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Elmira falls to 1-10 on the season and remains winless in the conference at 0-5 and hit the road Wednesday to face Ithaca College (4 p.m.)

The home team came out on all cylinders as it worked a 5-2 lead throughout the first 15 minutes of play.  The edge was short lived though as the Pioneer offense woke up and rattled off four second quarter goals to even the score, 6-6, headed in halftime. Jacobs netted two of his three goals in the first half while Winkler, Benson, Dan Duffy (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) earned the other UC scores.

UC came out in the third period on a tear as it outscored the home team 6-0 and moved to a convincing 12-6 lead headed into the final 15 minutes of action. Jacobs scored the first goal of the second half to complete his hat trick while Edelstein and Benson both put home two of their three tallies.  Andrew Jamieson (Six Nations, ON/Hagersville) was responsible for the other UC score.

The Pioneers locked up the win in the fourth as they outscored the Soaring Eagles 3-1 en route to snapping a three game slide and grabbing their third victory in the E8.

Pioneer goalie Trey Adams (Hogansburg, NY/Brewster Academy) stopped fours shots in the win while Elmira's Dave Bucchino allowed 15 scores while saving 217 shots in the loss
