Utica, NY (4-30-13) – The Utica College baseball team prepares for eight games in eight days, over the next week, to wrap up its 2013 campaign. UC heads to SUNY-Canton on Wednesday for a double header before returning home Thursday and Saturday for two nine-innings games against Union College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

UC's Schedule & Results: Utica is 4-22 overall and 1-8 in Empire 8 play through its initial 26 games ... The Pioneers are 3-9 over its last 12 games including five tough one run defeats, one two-run loss and another three-run loss … On the season, Utica has dropped 13-of-22 by three scores or less including eight games by a mere one run.
“DeMart” on the Rise: Freshman
Matthew DeMartino (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) has put forth an impressive effort recently batting .500 (5-for-10) over his last four games with four RBI, a double and a home run … The first-year Pioneer has played in 12 games while starting six this season and put up solid numbers at the plate … He is currently batting .346 (9-for-26) with a .577 slugging percentage, six RBI and four extra base hits.
Dunbar Daily: Senior
Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) is the only Pioneer to start all 26 games this season and is leading the team in almost all offensive categories … Dunbar holds a .286 mark at the dish with a team-best 78 at bats, 30 total bases and 22 hits … His .385 slugging percentage is best amongst players with a minimum of 50+ at bats … He also has an impressive .987 fielding percentage to go along with a team-high 142 put outs and just two errors.
Everyday Dinnen: UC's everyday catcher sophomore
Thomas Dinnen (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas ) has really stepped up his play this year with a current .279 (19-for-68) average in the box … Dinnen is second on the team in hits (19), third in RBI (nine) and fourth in runs scored (10) while gunning down 14 runners this season.
Scouting the “Roos”: The Kangaroos currently hold a 12-21 overall record including a 7-5 mark on their home field … After winning three-straight against SUNYIT (6-5, 8-3) and Hamilton College (8-7), two of Utica's local foes, the Roos have split their last two doubleheaders against St. Joseph's College (9-8, 1-3) and D'Youville College (19-1, 2-3) … Canton heads to rival SUNY- Plattsburgh Tuesday for a set against the Cardinals under the lights of Chip Cummings Field.
Schedule Ahead: Following Wednesday's pair in Canton, NY, UC will host back-to-back games at the friendly confines of the UC Baseball Field as it welcomes Union on Thursday for a 4 p.m. set start followed by John Jay on Saturday for a 12 p.m. first-pitch. Both contests are single, nine-inning games … The Pioneers then hit the road for their final four contests … Utica heads to St. John Fisher on Sunday, Mat 5th and then to Oswego State on Wednesday, May 8th, both are scheduled double headers.
