Softball Continues Home Dominance- UC Takes Two From Union

Sophomore Courtney Fitzgerald picked up her ninth home run of the season
Box Score Utica, NY (4/30/13)- The Utica College softball team moved its win streak to five games as it swept Union College, 5-2 and 10-0 (5 innings), in the final home game of the regular season. 

Utica 5, Union 2- Game One Final
Sophomore Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) and freshman Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) each hit solo home runs to help Utica pick up the victory.  Fitzgerald and senior Dominique Carcone (Frankfort, NY/New Hartford) were each 2-for-3 in the game, with Fitzgerald adding an RBI triple as well.

Utica used a four-run second inning to pull ahead.  Although Union was able to score to score two in the fourth, it was not enough as freshman Abby Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) held on for her 16th win of the season.

Alyssa Wolejko shouldered the loss for the Dutchwomen as she allowed four runs.  Allyson Staats was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Samantha Chevalier drove in the only two runs.

Utica 10, Union 0- Game Two Final
The Pioneers continued their hot streak at the plate as they tallied 11 hits and ten runs in four innings.  Junior Chelsea Monroe (Watertown, NY/General Brown) and freshman Alysa Russell (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) were both a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI and two stolen bases, while senior Bridgette Plummer (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. 

Meghan Matan (Latham, NY/Shaker), Courtney Fitzgerald (Albany, NY/Colonie Central), Mallory Ingalls (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany), Cassie Smith (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central), and Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) also had hits on the day, and Ingalls, Plummer, Smith, and Traglia added one steal apiece.  Sophomore Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) allowed just three hits in five innings of work to move to 8-1 on the season.

Allyson Staats was 2-for-2 at the plate, while Kristin Schmidt and Lindsay Cohen were 1-for-2.  Union drops to 16-23, while the Pioneers improve to 28-10 and boast an impressive 21-1 record at home. 

Utica returns to action Wednesday as it travels to SUNYIT for its regular season finale.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
