Pioneers Take on Cross-Town Rival Hamilton in 26th Annual Jackie Robinson Game

Utica, NY (4-8-13) – The Utica College baseball team is back in action Tuesday as it heads across town for the 26th annual Jackie Robinson Game against Hamilton College in Clinton, NY … First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Royce Field.

The Series: Utica currently leads the all-time series, 13-11, after a thrilling walk off win last year in Utica, NY … UC tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, 6-6, and then loaded the bases in the bottom of the tenth en route to a 7-6 victory … Vincent Burrillo went 3-for-5 with three runs scored including the game-tying run in the bottom of the ninth to earn UC's most Valuable Player while Sam Chaote went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to earn MVP honors for Hamilton ... Choate broke the College's all-time record for hits in a career and he now has 126 over the course of the last four seasons.

UC Thus Far: The Pioneers are currently 1-9 overall on the season including an 0-2 mark in the Empire 8 Conference … UC was recently swept by league rival St. John Fisher Sunday, 4-1 and 13-1, on the road in the conference opener on Sunday ... Six of the Pioneers' defeats have been by three runs or less including three one run losses.

Last Time Out: The Utica College baseball team dropped an Empire 8 double header to St. John Fisher College Sunday afternoon ... UC fell 4-1 in the first game and 13-1 in game two … The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Fisher responded with four unanswered runs and Cardinal pitcher Justin D'Amato held UC to just two more hits over the next six innings to earn the victory … Sophomore Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ) got things rolling early as he hit a solo shot to left, his first of the season, to give Utica a 1-0 lead … It was short lived however as junior Brad Rush doubled down the left field line to score classmate Mike Fahy and even the score at one after the first inning …Fisher scored two more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to take the 4-1 win and improve to 12-7 on the year … Sophomore Benjamin Hobaica (Clinton, NY/Clinton) band senior Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) joined Burrillo with one hit each in the first game ... Junior Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) had two strikeouts in the loss.

The Cardinals used a seven-run fifth inning to top Utica 13-1 in game two … Sophomore Nick Perkins (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) led the way going 4-for-4 with one run scored …Fisher went ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the second, before Perkins scored UC's lone run in the third inning. Perkins hit a leadoff double to left field and was eventually brought home on a wild pitch … The home team broke open the game combining for 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to complete the two-game sweep …Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) went 1-for-2, while Rob Heath (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) was 1-for-1.

The Continental Report: Hamilton currently occupies a 7-13 overall record including a 1-2 mark in the NESCAC … After returning from Winter Haven, FL with a 6-4 record, the Continentals have dropped six-of-seven including the most recent four game sweep by Tufts University … Following Tuesday's game with UC, Hamilton is right back in action Wednesday when they welcome Cazenovia College to DeLutis Field in nearby Rome, NY.

Home-Opener:  Following Tuesday's game, UC is right back on the diamond Wednesday as it kicks off a three-day, five-game home stand against non-conference rival Union College in the Pioneers season home opener on Wednesday at the UC Baseball Field … The nine-inning twilight game is set for 4 p.m. .. Utica then welcomes Ithaca over the weekend for a two day doubleheader set.
