UC Heads to Oswego State for Season-Finale

Utica, NY (5-6-13) – The Utica College baseball team wraps up its 2013 campaign Wednesday as it heads to Oswego State University for a pair against the Lakers … First-pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Laker Baseball Field.

Pioneers Tough at Home:  UC currently occupies a 6-26 overall record including a 1-10 mark in the Empire 8 … The Pioneers posted a 2-6 ledger at the friendly confines of the UC Baseball Field with five of their six losses coming by one run defeats … UC a total of 15 games by three runs or less including nine-one run defeats … Over its last 11 games dating back to late April, Utica is 4-7 … Four of those seven losses were by two scores or less.

Podlucky Named ATOW:  Senior Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) was named the College's Male Athlete of the Week Monday for his impressive performance at the plate this past week … Podlucky went 9-for-19 at the dish with four RBI and four runs scored as UC posted a 2-4 mark … He bumped his season average to .274 and leads the team with 18 runs scored while second in hits with 26 … The senior everyday shortstop managed a new record as he utilized every position in the field Saturday as UC beat John Jay, 8-4, on Senior Day.

Last Time Out: The Utica College baseball team was swept by St. John Fisher Sunday afternoon in its Empire 8 Conference finale, on the road, at Dugan Yard … The Cardinals won convincingly by scores of 10-0 and 16-1 … Senior Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) recorded three of the team's seven hits while sophomore Thomas Dinnen (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas ) drove in the lone run of the day in game two to guide UC … In game one, senior Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) was tagged with the loss after allowing eight runs (five earned) on 11 hits in 4.2 frames.  Jeffers tallied three strikeouts in the loss and now has a team-best 23 thus far … Podlucky tallied two-of-three UC hits while Dinnen registered the other … In the second game, UC's freshman relievers James Corcoran (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville), William Winsman (Palatine Bridge, NY/Canajoharie) and Joseph Horning (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) closed out the final 3.1 innings of work allowing just one run on three hits however the early, double-digit, deficit proved too much for any hopes of a potential comeback … Dinnen registered his 12th RBI as he brought home UC's only run … Sophomores Nick Perkins (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) and Benjamin Hobaica (Clinton, NY/Clinton) scattered the Pioneers other two rare hits.

The Laker Report: Oswego is currently 25-15 overall including a 12-6 mark in the SUNYAC … The Lakers recently placed second in their conference tournament this past week in Cortland, NY … OSU went 2-2 in the tournament beating New Paltz and Fredonia and losing twice to the nationally-ranked host Cortland.
