Oswego, NY (5-8-13) – The Utica College baseball team was swept Wednesday evening, on the road, by Oswego State in the season-finale by scores of 6-1 and 4-2 at the Laker Baseball Field.  Sophomore Benjamin Hobaica (Clinton, NY/Clinton) led the Pioneers with three hits on the day including one run, one RBI and one stolen base.

UC wraps up its 2013 campaign with an overall record of 6-28 including a 1-10 mark in the Empire 8 Conference.  The Lakers moved their overall record to 27-15 on the year.

Oswego 6, Utica 1 – Game One

The home team jumped out to a commanding five run lead in the bottom of the first on four hits and the help of two walks, a hit batter and a Utica error.

The Pioneers were shut down for the most part besides Hobaica's single in the third and his RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, scoring UC's lone score of game one.

Oswego chipped in another run in the sixth to seal the first game while allowing just four hits.

Junior Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) was tagged with the loss going 5.0 innings while allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits.

Oswego 4, Utica 2 – Game Two

UC got on the board first in game two off a Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) single in the top of the first.  Leadoff hitter junior Rob Heath (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) singled to start the game then stole second and third before scoring on Dunbar's base knock.  Oswego tied up the contest, 1-1, in the bottom of the second on a sac fly.

The Pioneers regained a mere one run lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth before the Lakers answered with a five-run fifth to complete the afternoon sweep.

UC Athlete of the Week senior Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) drove home Hobaica on a rope single to right center to conclude his stellar collegiate campaign.

Freshman pitcher Joshua Webb (Verona, NY/VVS) tossed 4.2 innings while allowing four runs on five hits in the loss.  Junior Ronald Mannella (Albion, NY/Albion) finished the mound work with 1.1 innings of scoreless play while fanning three Lakers.
