Pioneers Drop E8 Opener at Elmira

Sarah Southwell had two shots for UC
Box Score Elmira, NY (9/21/13)- The Utica College women's team lost ITS Empire 8 Conference opener, 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Elmira College.  Freshman Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) had a game-high 11 saves in the loss.

After a scoreless first half, the Soaring Eagles flew out of the gates to open the second frame, as Kelsie DeKarski scored just two and a half minutes into the second half.  Elmira added another tally just seven minutes later as Mackenzie Donahue tallied her first of the season, unassisted.  Elmira capped off the scoring in the final two minutes of the game as Mikayla Gowett blasted a shot from 30 yards out, over the head of Enders.

Senior Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and sophomore Krystine Alvear (Ossining, NY/Ossining) led the Utica offense with two shots on goal each.  The Soaring Eagles improve to 3-3 overall (1-0 Empire 8), while the Pioneers drop to 2-4-2, with an 0-1 mark in the conference.  UC returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Ithaca College for a match up against the Bombers.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
