UC Blanked by Stevens in E8 Action

Utica, NY (9-27-13) – The Utica College women's soccer dropped its third straight Empire 8 contest Saturday to visiting Stevens Institute of Technology, 3-0, at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Freshman Jaime Enders guided the Pioneers as she stopped 16 shots in goal.

The Pioneers remain home for back-to-back games beginning Wednesday, Oct. 2nd when they welcome Hartwick College to Gaetano Stadium for a 7 p.m. evening start.  UC then greets Houghton College the following Wednesday, Oct. 12.

The Ducks got on the board first as Bridgette Barden converted a pass from Raba Nassif to take an early 1-0 lead.  Barden found the back of the net, at 16:38, on a wide open shot recording her third goal of the season. Stevens controlled most of the first half outshooting the Pioneers 14-5 and also 4-0 on corners. Senior Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led UC in the first half with five shots.

The visitors came out just over six minutes into the second half and took a 2-0 edge as Mariah Cleveland found the back of the net inside the left post passed Enders, unassisted, at 41:42.  The squads battled over the next 40 minutes of scoreless action before the Ducks put the nail in the coffin with under ten minutes to play, at 82:21. Stevens' leading scorer Gabby Mathelier tallied the third and final score of the afternoon for her team best fifth goal of the season. 

Utica falls to 2-6-2 overall on the season including a winless 0-3 mark in the Empire 8 Conference while Stevens moves their season record to 4-5 and picked up its first win in league play.
