Utica, NY (9-7-13) – The Utica College women's tennis team lost its home-opener Saturday, 8-0, to Empire 8 rival Stevens Institute of Technology in a match shortened by rain at the Utica College Tennis Courts. Sophomore

Erin Burchill (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Indian Hills) guided the Pioneers as the duo battled the visitor's No. 1 and No. 2 in doubles competition losing 8-3.
Zaloom and Burchill were shut down however in singles play with Burchill posting just one point.
UC falls to 0-3 on the season including a winless 0-2 in the Empire 8 while the Ducks remain undefeated at 2-0 both overall and in league action.
Seniors
Elise Pape (New York Mills, NY/Holland Patent) and Nicole Johnson racked up five combined points in the singles play with Pape losing 6-3 and 6-0 in the fifth spot followed by Johnson's 6-2 and 6-0 defeat in the sixth frame.
Both teams return to the court Sunday afternoon in Empire 8 play as the Pioneers remain home to welcome Nazareth College for a 1 p.m. start at the UC Courts. SIT continues its four-match road trip as it heads to Oneonta, NY to face Hartwick College for a 12 p.m. set volley.
