Box Score Pittsburgh, PA (1/18/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team picked up two points in the ECAC West Conference standings as it downed Chatham University 4-3 Saturday night. UC was down 3-2 headed into the final frame, but used two third period goals to earn its 10th victory of the season.
Freshman
Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) tallied a goal in both the first and second periods, and seniors
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) and
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) scored in the third period to secure the lead.
Nicole Kieffer (Rome, NY/Lysander Lightning) assisted on both of Schnepp's tallies, and Myers, as well as sophomores
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) and
Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) each recorded one assist.
Chatham's Brianna Rice had two power play goals, while Erika Bronk had one goal and two assists. Megan Buchanan stopped 28 shots in net for the Cougars, and senior
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) had 11 saves for the Pioneers. Chatham was 2-for-6 on the power play, while UC was held scoreless on three chances with the man advantage.
Utica improves to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the ECAC West, and the Cougars drop to 3-9-2 (2-5 ECAC West). Both teams square off to complete the season series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
