Utica, NY (10/22/14)- The Utica College volleyball team got back on track Wednesday night as it downed crosstown rival, SUNYIT 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) in non-conference action.
With the win, the Pioneers snap an eight-game losing streak and improve to 2-1 against SUNYIT this season.
Freshman
Alaina Wickwire (Towanda, PA/Towanda) and sophomore
Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) each had ten kills on the evening to lead the Pioneers and Wickwire also added nine digs. Freshman
Samantha Hoerning (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) tallied nine kills, while
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) had six kills. Senior
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) had a team-high 13 digs, followed closely by junior
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville), who also had a team-best 31 assists. Freshman
Michaline Rubas (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) had a good showing as she collected six kills, four digs, and one service ace.
The Pioneers return to action Friday evening as they host Empire 8 foe, Stevens Institute of Technology. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
