Rochester, NY (10/25/14)- The Utica College women's soccer team fell to nationally ranked No. 22 Nazareth College, 3-0, in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) made a career-high 14 saves in the loss.
After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless action, the Golden Flyers were able to break the deadlock as Rachel Dise netted her third of the year, assisted by Briana Vibbard. Naz added an insurance goal in the 64th minute as Christine Belding found the back of the net for her team-leading seventh of the season, assisted by Mchaela Soules. The hosts capped off the scoring in the 74th minute as Danielle Wilkin put in her fourth of the year.
Naz outshot Utica 24-7 on the day. Senior
Alana Fitzpatrick (Cheshire, CT/Holy Cross) led Utica with three shots, while
Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) had two, and
Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and
Taylor Giglio (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) recorded one shot each. Nazareth goalie Allison Dobles made three saves on the day.
The Pioneers fall to 5-10-1, while Naz improves to 12-3-1 and is tied with Ithaca for first in the conference with a 7-1 mark in E8 play. Utica wraps up its season next Saturday as it hosts Empire 8 foe, Elmira College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
