Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Brockport Downs Utica in Non-Conference Action

Brockport, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision at host The College at Brockport on Tuesday evening.  Before the end of the first half, the Pioneers cut their 2-0 deficit in half when Katie Matloff (Grafton, MA/Grafton) tallied her first goal of the year to make the score 2-1, but the Golden Eagles scored the game's next two goals to put the contest out of reach.

The Pioneers look to snap a five game slide on Saturday when they return home to host nationally-ranked No. 25 Ithaca College in a crucial Empire 8 Conference contest at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium (12 p.m.). Utica is currently 4-6-1 overall and is in search of its first conference victory of the season (0-3).

Brockport netted an own goal in the 79th minute to make the score 4-2 late in the contest, but it proved to be too late for the Pioneers as the Golden Eagles advanced their record to 7-3-1 overall on the year.

Utica's Alana Fitzpatrick (Cheshire, CT/Holy Cross) registered the assist on Matloff's goal in the 42nd minute.  Fitzpatrick, who leads the team with 11 points (four goals, three assists), recorded the assist after a long throw from the side into the box connected with the foot of Hughes.

Brockport took an early 2-0 lead after goals from Stephanie Drago (17th minute) and Chelsea Stahl (22nd minute).  Katie Frieh made the score 3-1 at the half when she netted her first goal of the season for Brockport in the 43rd minute.  Cayli Carmona put the game away in the 66th minute, giving the home squad a 4-1 lead, as she tallied her ninth goal of the season.

Utica goalie Kelly Heimerle (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) stopped four shots for Utica in between the pipes, while Laura Thompson added six saves in 45 minutes of work for Brockport.

Utica was edged in shots 18-12 and the home team also earned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
