Utica, NY (October 7, 2014) – The Utica College women's tennis team will host Empire 8 opponent Houghton College this Sunday in its final regular season home match of the Fall. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Utica College Tennis Courts.
Pioneers Drop Back-to-Back Over the WeekendUC dropped two matches this past weekend, both on the road, losing to Alfred University, 8-1, on Saturday and Hamilton College, 9-0, on Sunday. The Pioneers were guided by freshman
Lu Lu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) on Saturday who scored five points in singles play however lost by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. She partnered up with
Gabriella Morreale (Utica, NY/T.R Proctor) in doubles play tallying four points in the 8-4 loss. She leads the team this season with two victories in nine tries. Utica was shut out on Sunday by undefeated Hamilton College (4-0) on the Grey Tennis Courts in Clinton, NY.

Lu Lu Zhang (Wenzhou, China /Newcomers) currently leads the Pioneers with two wins on the season. Zhang won against Fisher on Sept. 20 and again versus Ithaca on Sept. 27. Junior
Doni Look (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) along with sophomores
Anastasia Fitzpatrick (Parksville, NY/Liberty), and
Gabriella Morreale (Utica, NY/T.R Proctor) each recorded one victory on the season.
Empire 8 Conference StandingsStevens holds first place convincingly with an undefeated mark of 10-0 overall while 8-0 in E8 play. Ithaca trails in second place with a 7-1 overall record and 6-1 in the conference followed by Elmira in third who holds a 7-2 overall ledger including a 6-2 record in the E8. Alfred rounds out the top four as it occupies a 7-5 overall record and a record of 5-3 in the league. Hartwick (5-5 overall) and Nazareth (3-5) share fifth both with a 3-4 record while Houghton (3-9 overall) and St. John Fisher (1-9 overall) are in a tie for seventh place at 1-6. Utica (0-11) rounds out the standings at 0-7.
Season Finale vs. BardThe Pioneers have their season-finale scheduled for Saturday Oct. 18 in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY to face Bard College. The match is set for 1:30 at the Stevenson Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
