Utica, NY - The 2014 Empire 8 Champion Utica College field hockey team will host Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Amanda Vitro (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) was named tournament MVP after her stellar play in the defensive end.
SEASON RECAP: The Pioneers (18-2) set a new program record for wins in a season, eclipsing last year's mark of 17… Utica has outscored opponents 89-27 on the season and UC is sixth nationally with 4.45 goals per game… The Pioneers are ranked No. 17 in the latest NFHCA national poll, just one vote behind No. 16 University of Mary Washington.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: Utica is an impressive 10-0 and has outscored opponents 45-9 at Gaetano stadium this season… UC also has four shutouts at home this year… The Pioneers are 16-1 on their home turf dating back to Sept. 14 last season.

SCOUTING FDU-FLORHAM: Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham travels to Utica from Madison, NJ… The Devils are 14-7 overall and they are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1986… They captured the Freedom Conference Championship after defeating Misericordia University 2-1… FDU-Florham features Freedom Conference Player of the Year, Niki Ikeda, who registered ten goals and seven assists this year… This is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
