UC Field Hockey Places Four on All-Region Team; Mackey Named North Atlantic Player of the Year

Utica, NY (11/18/14)- Four members of the Utica College field hockey team were named to the 2014 Longstreth / NFHCA Division III All-Region Team, released Monday.  Seniors Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central), Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) were First Team selections, while Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) earned Second Team recognition.  Mackey was also named the North Atlantic Region Player of the Year.

This marks the second time in three years that a Pioneer was named the Regional Player of the Year, as Steele-Norton earned the honors in 2012.  Mackey, who was also named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year, had a remarkable senior campaign that saw her set new conference single-season records for goals (36) and points (80).  She averaged 1.71 goals per game, which ranks third in the nation.  She is making her fourth straight appearance on the All-Region team; including the third consecutive year she was named first team All-Region.  Mackey wrapped up her career as Utica's all-time leader in goals (84), points (199), and game-winning goals (23). Only eight players in NCAA Division III history scored more goals than Mackey did this season.

Steele-Norton is also making her fourth straight appearance on the All-Region squad after totaling 16 goals and 37 points in her final season. She helped lead the Utica offense that averaged 4.38 goals per game this season and her 1.76 points per game ranked sixth in the conference.  She is second all-time with 76 goals and 165 points in 81 games played.

This is the third year in a row Stojkovski has been named All-Region and the second year in a row that she was named to the First Team.  The midfielder wrapped up her best season yet as she had a career-high 12 goals, including two game-winners, and 30 points while starting all 21 games this year.  She ranks second on the College's all-time list with 30 career assists.

Dowling was named All-Region for the first time in her career after earning All-Conference honors the last two seasons.  She netted seven goals and dished out 11 assists for 25 points while starting all 21 games for the Pioneers.  In her career, she has totaled 15 goals and 52 points in 64 games played.

The Pioneers wrapped up their best season ever with an 18-3 record, their third straight Empire 8 Championship and UC earned a berth in the NCAA tournament for the third year in a row.  18 wins set a new program record for wins in a season.  This year's squad also set a new team record for points (232) and goals (92) in a season.
