Utica, NY (11/19/14) – The Utica College men's basketball team is gearing up for the Chuck Resler Tournament held at the University of Rochester this weekend. Utica will face off against New Paltz for a 1 p.m. game on Friday ... The winner of the game will play the winner of the Gordon College and University of Rochester game .. The consolation game is set to start at 1 p.m. Saturday followed by the championship game at 6 p.m.

CHASING HISTORY: Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) has 86 career 3-pointers made … Maisch is just two shy from cracking the top ten and 14 from being the seventh player in Utica history with at least 100 3-pointers made …
Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) looks to climb the all-time assists leader board … Nevins has registered 288 career assists ranking him seventh in program history … He needs 14 more to pass Rich Kuc's mark of 301, set in 1997, to be in sixth place … Nevins would need 164 more assists to be the programs all-time leader in assists … He also has a total of 910 career points; he needs 103 points to be in sole possession of tenth place … If that wasn't enough Nevins is climbing the all-time record in minutes played … He has 2,304 minutes played ranking him ninth …
Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) comes in at third for most rebounds in program history … He has a total of 643 career rebounds and needs five more to break Mark Carmichael's record set in 1990 … Jeffers would need a historic season to break the programs 36 year old record of 1,109 rebounds set by Gordon Taylor in 1978.
MONEY MAISCH: One game in and
Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) is leading the Pioneers in points scored with 16 … Maisch drained pair of 3-pointers and grabbed five boards in the season-opener… He went 2-3 from the line and added one steal in the first game of the season … In the 2012-13 season he led all NCAA divisions in 3 point percentage amount eligible players, connecting on 53.5 percent of his attempts.
DURABLE NEVINS: After the first game, Nevins registered ten points, three rebounds, and one assist in 30 minutes of action … Last season, Nevins averaged a team-high 16.9 points per game and 4.3 assists per game … He scored a career-high 32 points against SUNY Canton (12/4/13).
COMING OFF THE BENCH: Freshman
Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) came off the bench for his first collegiate game and pitched in with six points, one assist, four rebounds in 16 minutes of action … Classmate
Dillan Veeder (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) saw 11 minutes in his first collegiate game and netted three points, to go along with one block and one assist.
NEW PALTZ REPORT: The Hawks are off to a rocky start as they lost their first two games of the season … New Paltz lost a heartbreaker in overtime against Hamilton College 58-55 and three days later lost to Vassar College 70-61 … Taylor Sowah and Alex Perlman are leading the Hawks in most points scored with 32 and averaging 16 points per game … Sowah is proving to be New Paltz top big man as he has 26 rebounds … As a team, New Paltz is shooting .315 percent from the field.
FIRST TIME AGAINST EACH OTHER: This will mark the first time the college have matched up against each other in over 25 years … They do share a common opponent in SUNY Cortland, last season Utica beat Cortland 71-67 and New Paltz lost 72-69.
GETTING FAMILAR WITH U OF R: The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 on the season after taking down Nazareth 61-56 … Jared Seltzer and Sam Borst-Smith led U of R with a combined 22 points on the night … Borst-Smith pulled down five boards to tie him for most on the team with Zack Ayers.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE YELLOW JACKETS: This will mark the first time the two institutions have squared off on the court in over a decade … They share common opponent, Nazareth College ... U of R lost to Naz last year 94-84 and UC lost both meetings versus Naz last year 98-82 and 93-84.
SCOUTING GORDON COLLEGE: The Fighting Scots lost their season opener to Massachusetts Institute of Technology 64-51 … Gordon was led by Taylor Bajema with 19 points followed by Dominic Paradis with 12 and Jaren Yang netted 11 … Bajema proved to be the Fighting Scots top big as he pulled down 7 rebounds and one block.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE FIGHTING SCOTS: This marks the first time since the 2005-06 NCAA Division III Tournament that the two colleges are facing off … Back in the 2005-06 season Utica downed Gordon 71-66 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament … UC advanced to the sweet 16 and lost to Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher 94-78.
