Box Score TROY, NY – The Utica College women's basketball team lost to host RPI 72-58 in non-conference action Wednesday night. Utica's
Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) netted a team-high 16 points and added eight rebounds.
Kelcei Edmonds (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor while pulling in five rebounds.
Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills),
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and
Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) each added eight points for the Pioneers (1-2). RPI (2-1) was led by 24 points and 12 rebounds from junior Ashley Clough, while Amanda Lynch added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
After falling into an early 4-0 hole the Pioneers used an 8-0 run in a span of 1:36 to take a 8-4 lead less than two minute into the contest. Greenwald led the opening surge with four points.
The Pioneers outscored RPI 15-14 in the next 12:04 of action to take a 22-19 lead with 4:28 to go in the first half of play. Traglia led the Pioneers with seven points in the stretch.
The Engineers finished the first half on a 14-3 run to take a 33-25 lead at the half. Courtney Reynolds led the home teams charge with six points as they held UC to just 1-of-8 shooting in the span of 4:19.
RPI opened the second half on a 15-8 run in a span of 6:49 to earn a 48-33 lead with 13:30 to go in regulation. Utica put together a quick 7-0 run in a span of 1:07 to cut their deficit to 48-40 with 12:23 to go. Freshman
Ashley Mayo (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) sparked the run with a 3-pointer for UC.
RPI answered with another 12-5 run in the next 5:52, holding UC to 2-of-11 shooting in the stretch, to take a 15 point lead, 60-45, with 6:31 left.
The Pioneers put together one more run to cut their deficit to eight points with 29 seconds left, but that was as close as they would get, and RPI made their free throws down the stretch to earn the 14 point win.
Utica returns the hardwood back at home on Saturday when the Pioneers host SUNYIT in non-conference action against the Wildcats at 2 p.m.
