Utica, NY (11/25/14) – The Utica College men's basketball team is set to host cross-town rival, SUNY Polytechnic Institute in its home opener Tuesday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers traveled to Rochester, NY for the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester last weekend … Utica beat New Paltz 84-72 in the first game of the tournament before falling to host U of R in the championship game, 75-53 … Senior Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) led the way with 40 points, including 12 3-pointers on the weekend … Not far behind was classmate Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) with 30 points and 11 rebounds.

HISTORY UPDATE: Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) has 300 career assists for the program, ranking him seventh all-time and he needs just two more dishes to move into sole possession of sixth place … He would need 93 more assists to be second all-time … Nevins needs 73 more points to crack the top ten scoring leaders … He currently has 940 career points … Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) continues to climb the all-time 3-pointers made list … Maisch has 98 career 3-pointers, tying him with current assistant coach, Will Abrams for seventh most all-time … Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) is now second all-time with 662 career rebounds … Jeffers looks to extend his lead and close the gap on all-time leader, Gordon Taylor, who collected 1,109 boards in his career.

HOT SHOT: Despite missing almost all of last season due to injury, senior Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) is picking up right where he left off… In 2012-13, Maisch led all NCAA divisions in 3 point percentage among eligible players, connecting on 53.5 percent of his attempts… He drained 83 shots from behind the arc in 25 games played that year… So far this season, Maisch has hit 14 3-pointers in just three games played… He currently ranks seventh nationally with 4.67 three-point field goals per game… In Friday's win against New Paltz, Maisch set a new school-record and tied the University of Rochester's Palestra Gymnasium record with nine 3-pointers to help Utica to an 84-72 victory. .. For his efforts, he was named the Empire 8 Player of the Week.

FRESHMAN FITTING IN: Freshman Ivan Iton (Ossining, NY/Ossining) is fourth on the team with 7.7 points per game… He has also chipped in with 3.7 rebounds per contest and is an impressive 13-of-15 from the free-throw line.

SCOUTING SUNY POLY: The Wildcats are 0-1 after falling to nearby Hamilton College, 63-51, in their season opener last Wednesday… Maverick Hodge netted 21 points and dished out five assists, while Tyler Taverne grabbed eight rebounds… Utica is 3-6 against SUNY Poly (formerly, SUNYIT) in the last five years… Last year, the Pioneers dropped both meetings to the Wildcats, losing 90-80 in their first match up, then falling 92-77 in the rematch.   

NEXT TIME OUT: UC returns to action this weekend as it travels to nearby Clinton, NY for the Hamilton Invitational… UC will take on the Hamilton Continentals in the opening game on Saturday at 5 p.m.  UC will then face either St. Lawrence or SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry on Sunday.
