Men's Basketball Tips Off Monday at Fisher Tourney

UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's basketball team returns to the court Monday evening looking to snap a three-game skid against Washington & Jefferson in Pittsford, NY at the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament at St. John Fisher.

Tournament Details: Monday's tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Fisher's campus … On Tuesday, the Pioneers will square off against The College at Old Westbury for a 1 p.m. set tip.

Pioneers Look to Get Back on Track: UC presently holds a 2-5 overall record … Over the three game skid, all on the road, Utica played fairly well losing by an average of eight points per game  ... At the Hamilton Invite, the Pioneers lost to the host Continentals, 67-59, before losing by six points the next day, 62-56, to St. Lawrence .. Most recently, UC fell to Canton by 11 points, 78-67 … UC's two wins came against New Paltz at the U of R Tip-Off Tourney back on Nov. 21st and in overtime, 93-88, versus SUNYIT in its only home game thus far.

Taking a Look at the Presidents: Washington & Jefferson recently snapped an eight game losing streak to pick up its first win of the season … The Presidents, now 1-8 overall, scored 99 points last Monday en route to a 32 point defeat over Penn State Dubos … W&J's highest scoring effort previously was just 71 points while averaging a mere 61 points per game over its eight losses.

Getting to Know Old Westbury:  SUNY College at Old Westbury is currently winless at 0-7 overall … The Panthers compete in the Skyline Conference and recently dropped back-to-back games against Yeshiva University and Purchase College and are now 0-2 in league play … SUNY has been outscored by an average of 15.7 points in its seven losses.

UC Leaders: Senior sharpshooter Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) currently leads the way for UC as he sits atop almost every scoring column … Maisch heads the squad in scoring (18.9 pts/g), field goal (.506%) and 3-point percentage (.491%) ... He is currently second in rebounds (3.7 reb/g) and third in assists (1.6 ast/g) … Junior Robert Tutein (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) in second in scoring, field goal and 3-point percentage for UC averaging 11.7 points per game while shooting .456% from the floor and .391% from deep … Senior point guard Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) leads the team in assists and minutes averaging 4.0 dishes per game in 34 minutes … Nevins is scoring 10.9 per game to go along with 1.6 steals, both good enough for third on the squad.

History Update: Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) has 315 career assists, ranking him sixth all-time and he needs just seven more dishes to move into sole possession of fifth place … He needs 78 more assists to become second all-time at UC … Nevins needs 24 more points to crack 1,000 career points … He needs 37 points to crack the top ten list at UC … He currently has 976 career points … Conor Maisch (Kingston, NY/John A. Coleman) continues to climb the all-time 3-pointers made list … Maisch has 111 career 3-pointers, ranking him sixth all-time … Maisch would need 75 more to be second all-time … Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) is now second all-time with 693 career rebounds … Jeffers looks to extend his lead and close the gap on all-time leader, Gordon Taylor, who collected 1,109 boards in his career.

E8 Play Opens this Weekend: Following the early week tourney, UC returns home this weekend to open up Empire 8 Conference action with back-to-back contests at the friendly confines of the Clark Athletic Center … Utica will host Fisher on Friday night for an 8 p.m. tip-off before welcoming Ithaca on Saturday for an afternoon 4 p.m. set start.
