UC and Cortland Tie in Women's Hockey Action

Utica, NY (12/7/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team let a two-goal lead slip away as it tied SUNY Cortland 2-2 in ECAC West Conference action Sunday afternoon.  All four goals were scored on the power play.
 
Junior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) extended her scoring streak to five games as she tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season.  Reed has nor racked up 11 points in the last five games.  Utica jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 8:25 as Reed tipped in a shot from Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy)Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) also assisted on the play.  The Pioneers extended their lead at 9:33 of the second as senior Nikki Kieffer (Rome, NY/Lysander Lightning) tallied her second of the season, assisted by Haasbeek and Reed. 
 
The Red Dragons were able to get on the board at 13:32 as Maggie Corbett scored her first of the season.  Abbie Adams and Mackenzie Wright assisted on the power play tally.  Cortland evened the score with just 29 seconds left in the period as Katie Gili redirected a shot from the point that snuck past Utica goalie Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School).  Wright and Adams once again assisted on the play.
 
Despite trading opportunities, neither team was able to find the back of the net as they settled for a tie.  Goin had 22 saves for Utica, while her counterpart, Deanna Meunier made 28 saves in net for Cortland. 
 
The Pioneers move to 4-2-2, and 3-2-1 in conference play.  Utica will have nearly a month off before traveling to SUNY Canton on Tuesday, Jan. 6.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
