Elmira, NY (February 1, 2014) – The Utica College men's basketball team lost to host Elmira College 76-65 in Empire 8 Conference action Saturday afternoon. Three different Pioneers scored in double figures including Marion Lewis (Bronx, NY/Lehman) (13), Aaron Nevins (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) (12) and Ian Henderson (Chateaugay, NY/Chateaugay) (10).

Elmira, winners of two straight, completed the regular season sweep of the Pioneers and improved to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play. The Soaring Eagles were led by a 26 point effort from Chris Cassidy, while Neil Randolph chipped in with 21 points.

Utica's record moved to 6-13 overall and 1-9 in conference play. The Pioneers shot 50% (23-for-46) from the floor on the afternoon and 93.3% (14-for-15) from the charity stripe.

Twin brother's Mark and Marty Felecia each registered eight points apiece for the Pioneers' while sophomore Robert Tutein (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) added seven points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 15-12 lead 8:01 into the contest, but the home team used a 20-5 run in the next 6:44 to earn a 12 point lead, 32-20, with 5:15 left in the first half of play. UC was able to close the first half on a 10-4 run to trim its deficit to 36-30 at the intermission.

Utica trailed by just two points, 52-50, midway through the second half, but the Soaring Eagles outscored the Pioneers 24-15 in the final ten minutes of the contest to earn the 11 point victory.

Elmira won the turnover battle and scored 17 points off of the 14 UC mistakes. The Soaring Eagles also took care of the ball on the offensive end, giving up just three turnovers the entire game.

The Pioneers return to the hardwood on Tuesday night when they host St. John Fisher College for an Empire 8 Conference contest at 6 p.m.
