Box Score
Utica, NY (February 8, 2104) – Eight different skaters registered one point as the Utica College women's hockey team defeated visiting Neumann University 3-1 in ECAC Women's West Conference play Saturday afternoon at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Utica has now won three of its last four games and improved to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in conference play. The KnightS have dropped two of their last three contests and their record moved to 5-13-1 overall and 2-8-1 in ECAC West play. UC has now won three straight against the Knights by a combined score of 10-4 dating back to last season.

Utica jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first period to take a commanding lead by netting both goals in a span of just 1:11. Senior forward Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) knocked home a rebound 8:07 into the contest and junior forward Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean) followed the first UC goal with one of her own at 9:18 to put the Pioneers on top by two. Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and Nicole Kieffer (Rome, NY/Lysander Lightning) assisted on the first UC goal, while Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) was credited with an assist on Dowdall's power-play goal.

Meyer's now has 132 career points (71 goals, 61 assists) and she needs just two more to tie former UC All-American Stephanie Price '07 for second on the College's all-time scoring list.

Utica took a three goal advantage 4:31 into the second period of play when freshman Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) netted her third collegiate goal after batting a loose rebound out of midair past Neumann net minder Justina Mayer. Senior defender Kristen Beckman (Arnold, MD/Northwood School) took the initial shot on goal and was credited with an assist.

Neumann threatened early in the third period when sophomore forward Lauren Cusack netted her second goal of the season, assisted by senior Angela Gilmour, to cut Utica's lead to two goals just 1:16 into the final period. That was as close as it would get as senior goalie Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School)'s 20 saves sealed the two goal victory for Utica.

Hamel picked up her 32nd career victory and moved into a tie for second on the College's all-time wins list with former UC goalie Sarah Detwiler '05. Hamel needs three more wins to tie Jill Doherty '10 for first on the all-time list. Mayer stopped 26 shots in net for the Knights.

All six of the Pioneers' losses this season have come against teams ranked in the top four in the country. UC has lost to No. 1 Plattsburgh twice, No. 3 Elmira twice and once each to No. 2 Middlebury and No. 4 Norwich.

The Pioneers and Neumann turn right back around tomorrow to wrap up the ECAC West weekend set at 4 p.m. at the Aud.
