Kean Tops Utica in Men's Lacrosse Action

Union, NJ (3/15/14)- The Utica College men's lacrosse team fell to host Kean College, 16-9, Saturday in non-conference action.  Senior Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy) led the Pioneers with five points on the day.

Despite finishing the first quarter tied 2-2, the Cougars turned up the pressure in the second stanza, outscoring UC 8-3 over the next two quarters.  Baron netted three goals and added two assists as Utica's top player.  Junior transfer Christian Reiller (Salamanca, NY/Genesee CC) and freshman Ross Cree (Akwesasne/Salmon River ) also chipped in with two goals and an assist each. 

Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) and Andrew Jamieson (Six Nations, ON/Hagersville) capped off the scoring for the Pioneers and Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) made seven saves in the loss.   UC outshot Kean 49-45 on the day, including a 13-7 advantage in the first quarter. 

Kean had three players score five or more points, and goalie Dino Vitale made 23 saves in the win.  The Cougars improve to 5-1, while Utica drops to 2-2.  The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host Castleton State.  Game time is set for 4 p.m.
