Utica, NY (4/15/14)- The Utica College men's lacrosse team returns home Wednesday as it welcomes Stevens Institute of Technology for a critical Empire 8 Conference contest.  The opening face off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT:  The Pioneers are coming off a 9-4 E8 victory over Alfred on Saturday… Junior Christian Reiller (Salamanca, NY/Genesee CC) led all players with four points (three goals, one assist), while Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had three assists and Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) and David Craig (Brewerton, NY/Paul V. Moore) each had one goal and one assist… Andrew Jamieson (Six Nations, ON/Hagersville), Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy), Corey Thompson (Akwesasne/Salmon River), and TJ Benson (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) also scored and Ross Cree (Akwesasne/Salmon River ) added two helpers on the day… Junior Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) made 12 saves in net for his fourth win of the season.
 
WELCOME TO THE CLUB: With three assists on Saturday, senior captain Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) surpassed his older brother Steve Schoen '07 for second place on the college's career assist list...  Joe now has 67 assists over his four years at UC, ten behind career leader Nate Jobson '05…  Schoen also became just the seventh player in program history to record 100 or more career points. 
 
LEADING THE WAY: Junior Christian Reiller (Salamanca, NY/Genesee CC) leads the team in goals (21) and points (31) and he is tied with Schoen for the team lead with ten assists… He is also ranked in the top 15 in the conference with 1.75 goals per game… Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) is second on the team with 19 goals and 26 points, while freshman Ross Cree (Akwesasne/Salmon River ) rounds out the top three with 21 points (12 goals, nine assists).
 
BIG D: Junior defender Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) leads the conference and ranks 40th in the nation with 2.33 caused turnovers per game… Dan Duffy (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) ranks sixth in the conference in the same category with 1.54 caused turnovers per game and junior Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) ranks second in the conference with 11.2 saves per game. 
 
SCOUTING STEVENS: Senior Charlie Cronin leads the conference with 2.73 goals per game… He has netted 30 goals and added 11 assists in 11 games so far… Junior Michael Maroon is second on the team with 38 points, including a team-high 17 assists… The Ducks hold a 6-0 advantage over UC all-time … Last year, Stevens topped Utica 17-7… Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) led the Pioneers with three goals, while Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had one goal and one assist.
 
HOW WE MATCH UP: Utica is currently 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8 Conference… Stevens is tied with Utica for fourth in the conference with two wins… The Ducks are 5-6 overall and 2-1 in E8 play… Utica is second in the conference with 122 caused turnovers, while Stevens is fourth (102)… The Ducks have the upper hand in goals scored (142), while Utica has netted 110 goals.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers remain home Saturday as they host Elmira College in Empire 8 action… Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
