Utica, NY (April 8, 2014) - The Utica College men's lacrosse team will continue its Empire 8 Conference schedule on the road Wednesday as the Pioneers take on nationally-ranked No. 12 Ithaca College. The opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers are coming off a 10-7 road win against Misericordia University on Saturday…Senior Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), senior Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy) and sophomore Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) each had two goals to lead the Pioneers… Junior goalie Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) stopped 12 shots in his fifth career victory.

As a Team: In the Empire 8, UC is ranked first in caused turnovers per game (11.78), second in shots on goal per game (26.56) and shot percentage (.234). The Pioneers are also third in goals against average (9.89).

Hot Hands: Junior Christian Reiller (Salamanca, NY/Genesee CC) leads the team with 26 points (17 goals, nine assists)… In the conference he is ranked third in shots per game (8.78) and 15^th in goals per game (1.78)… DiOrio is ranked fifth in the conference in saves per game (9.43) and eighth in goals against average (10.26) and save percentage (.500).

Schoen Brothers Lacrosse: Senior captain Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) needs two more assists to tie his older brother Steve Schoen '07 for second on the College's all-time assist list … Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) currently has 63 assists over the course of the last four seasons … He is one of just three player's in school history to record 60+ career assists, joining his brother Steve Schoen (2^nd all-time, 65) and Nate Jobson '05 (1^st all-time, 78 assists) … Schoen now has 96 career points (33 goals, 63 assists) and needs just four more points to become the seventh player in program-history to record 100 or more points in a career … Schoen's current point total ranks eighth all-time at UC … Joe's other older brother Ben Schoen played from 2001-2004 and ranks eighth on the College's all-time list with 38 career assists.

Defense, Defense, Defense: Utica's Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) currently leads the Empire 8 and ranks 33^rd in the country with an average of 2.40 caused turnovers per game … Sean Flanagan (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) ranks third in the E8 and 103^rd nationally with an average of 1.70 caused turnovers per game, while defender Dan Duffy (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) ranks fifth in the conference with an average of 1.60.

Team Highs: In 10 games this season, here are some of the Pioneers' team-high stats: 16 goals scored against Manhattanville (3/8/14), seven assists against SUNYIT (3/6/14), 62 shots against SUNYIT (3/6/14), 16 saves against Nazareth (4/2/14), 48 ground balls against SUNYIT (3/6/14), and 19 caused turnovers against SUNYIT (3/6/14).   

Scouting Ithaca: The nationally-ranked No. 12 Bombers are coming off a 19-0 win over Houghton College… They are 8-3 overall, 2-0 in the conference and 3-1 at home… They are just one of two teams left with an unblemished conference record ... In the E8, they are ranked second in ground balls per game (38.64) and goals per game (12.82) ... They are also third in assists per game (7.64), points per game (20.45), and shots per game (44.36)… Senior Pat Slawta leads the Bombers with 39 points (28 goals, 11 assists) in just 11 games… In the conference, he is ranked third in goals per game (2.55) and fourth in points per game (3.55).

Last 10 Years: In the last 10 years, UC is 1-9 against Ithaca… The last time that UC downed the Bombers was at Ithaca on April 14, 2010 by the score of 9-5 … Last season, UC lost at home, 15-4.
