#12 Ithaca Tops Utica in Empire 8 Action

Ithaca, NY (April 9, 2014) – The nationally-ranked No. 12 Ithaca College men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back as the Bombers rolled to a 20-4 victory over visiting Utica College in Empire 8 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. 

Utica's record moved to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play headed into the Pioneers third straight road game on Saturday at conference opponent Alfred University (4 p.m.). The Bombers were led by eight points from John Januskiewicz (six goals, two assists) as they improved to 9-3 overall and remained perfect at 3-0 in the E8.

Utica's David Craig (Brewerton, NY/Paul V. Moore), Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy), TJ Benson (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) and Grayson Phillips (Akwesasne/Massena) each scored a goal for the Pioneers. It was the first collegiate goal for freshman Grayson Phillips (Akwesasne/Massena). Jacobs leads the team with 19 goals this season and he ranks second on the squad with 25 points. Benson now has eight goals this season and 41 for his career.  The senior also has 51 career points (41 goals, 10 assists).

Senior captain Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied one assist and is now just one shy of his older brother Steve Schoen '07 for second on the College's all-time assist list.  Schoen now has 64 assists.  Schoen has 97 career points and needs just three more to become the seventh player in program-history to register 100 or more points in a career.

Junior goalie Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) stopped a season-high 17 shots for the Pioneers, just one save short of his career-high. Utica's Zack Stevenson (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) won 12-of-21 face-off's and also scooped up seven ground balls.  Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) added three ground balls and one caused turnover for the Pioneer defense. 

Pat Slawta chipped in with two goals and three assists for the Bombers, while Ryan Burns added two goals and two assists. Scott Sidnam stopped 13 shots in net for the Bombers.
