Box Score 2 Utica, NY (5/8/14)- The Utica College baseball team wrapped up its season Thursday as it fell to visiting St. John Fisher College in Empire 8 Conference action. The Cardinals took the first game 8-0 before closing out the second game 6-3.
The Pioneers wrap up their 2014 campaign with an overall record of 9-23.
Utica 0, St. John Fisher 8- Game One FinalThe Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back as they cruised to their 28th win of the season. Utica struggled at the plate, only able to muster four hits total as
Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ),
Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic),
Matthew DeMartino (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside), and
Cam Andrews (Bangor, PA/Bangor) each had one hit. Fisher's Justin D'Amato was impressive on the mound, striking out ten in seven innings to move to 9-1 on the season.
Freshman
Ethan Bliss (Cooperstown, NY /Cooperstown) shouldered the loss for Utica as he struck out two and gave up four earned runs in five innings of work.
Utica 3, St. John Fisher 6- Game Two FinalFisher held just a 1-0 lead through the first five innings before local native, Mike Fahy, hit a two-RBI single to right field to cushion the Cardinal lead. Facing a 3-0 hole in the bottom of the eighth, the Pioneers mounted their comeback.

Matt Haddad (Frankfort, NY/T.R Proctor) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Then, a walk and another hit batter loaded the bases for Utica with no outs. The Pioneers scored their first run on a wild pitch, before senior
Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) drove in a run as he grounded out to second. With two outs, sophomore Matt DeMartino drilled a double down the right field line, scoring the tying run. It was short lived, however, as the Cardinals rebounded with three runs of their own in the top of the ninth to dash Utica's comeback hopes.

Rob Heath (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore),
Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ),
Thomas Dinnen (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas ), and DeMartino each had one hit for Utica, while
Stephen Szatko (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) and
William Winsman (Palatine Bridge, NY/Canajoharie) combined for four strikeouts in the loss.
The doubleheader marked the final games for Utica's five graduating seniors, including
Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic),
Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn),
