Ljubljana, Solvenia (August 20, 2014) – The Utica College men's hockey team lost to first division Olimpija Ljubljana 6-3 in an international contest on Wednesday.   Joel Wetmore (Horseheads, NY/Lindsay (OJHL)), Jide Idowu (Copper City, FL/Carleton Place (CCHL)) and Mike Baird (Oakville, Ontario/Huntsville (OJHL)) each tallied a goal for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers trailed 1-0 before netting their first goal of the trip with eight seconds to go in the first period to knot the score at 1-1 headed into the second.  UC trailed 3-2 late in the second period, before lighting the lamp with just 36 seconds left in the stanza to tie the game up at 3-3 headed into the final 20 minutes of play. 

The home team netted three unanswered goals in the third to skate away with the three goal victory. UC senior goalie Mike Taffe (Maple Grove, MN/Amarillo (NAHL)) led the way with 27 saves.  The Pioneers totaled 30 shots on the evening. 

The two teams will enter game two of a three game series on Thursday night in Bled, Slovenia.
