Bled, Slovenia (August 21, 2014) – The Utica College men's hockey team rebounded from a series opening loss with a 3-2 victory over first division Olimpija Ljubljana in Bled, Slovenia on Thursday night.
Nick Miglio (San Antonio, TX/Bismarck (NAHL)),
Peter LaFosse (Merrimack, NH/Kimball Union Academy) and
Justin Hogan (Val Therese, Ontario/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) each recorded a goal to pace the Pioneers. LaFosse and Miglio also each added an assist, while sophomore
Luc Boby (Chicago, IL/Kalamazoo (NAHL)) added two assists of his own.
UC avenged a 6-3 loss in its trip-opening contest by taking a 2-0 advantage in the first period against Olimpija. LaFosse and Boby assisted Miglio on the game's opening goal. LaFosse then netted his first goal of the trip, assisted by Miglio and Boby, to put the Pioneers on top 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.
UC surrendered one second period tally, but took its two goal lead back when Hogan lit the lamp early in the third period to put the Pioneers on top 3-1.
Louie Educate (Chicago, IL/Aberdeen (NAHL)) and
Jide Idowu (Copper City, FL/Carleton Place (CCHL)) assisted on the Pioneers' final goal of the contest.
The home team pulled its goal with under a minute to go and netted the final goal of the contest, but it proved to be too late as the Pioneers evened the three game series with Olimpija at 1-1.
UC will travel to Austria on Friday night where they will take on Villach of the Austrian National League at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will wrap up international play on Saturday when they take on Olimpija in the final contest of the three game set.
