Utica, NY (August 5, 2014) - Former Utica College men's basketball point guard, Doug Herring '09, has signed a European professional contract with the Bristol Flyers in the British Basketball League (BBL).
 
"I'm very pleased to be joining the Bristol Flyers. I believe they will be a great fit for the next stage in my career," said Herring of signing his first European contract.  "Talking to Coach Kapoulas, we are excited to compete in their inaugural season in the BBL."
 
Herring, a 6-foot-3 guard from Poughkeepsie, NY, played for Utica College from 2005-2009 and averaged 18.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game throughout his collegiate career.  He finished his career ranked first on the College's all-time list with 451 assists and second all-time in career scoring with 1,587 points.
 
Herring spent his first two professional seasons with the Hudson Valley Kings of the Atlantic Professional Basketball League where he averaged 31.0 points per game and tallied had a season-high 66-point outing.
 
He spent this past season with the St. John Mill Rats of the National Basketball League of Canada. His stellar play landed him in the top 10 of most statistical categories; averaging 18.0 points, 5.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals while shooting 42% from beyond the arc. He also helped his team place first in the Atlantic division with a mark of 23-17 in conference play, a 24-20 overall record, and made it to the second round of the playoffs.
 
"Doug will fit in well to the existing team. He's a very talented player and he is coming to us after a great season in the professional league in Canada," said Bristol Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas. "He strengthens our back court significantly and he is bringing in the much needed experience required at the guard spot for our first year in the BBL."
