Pioneers Set for Back-to-Back Battles on the Courts

Following Friday's contest, UC will return home for two matches

Utica, NY (September 11, 2014) - The Utica College women's tennis team is set for back-to-back matches this Friday and Saturday.  UC hits the road Friday to challenge Oswego State before returning to the friendly confines of the UC Tennis Courts Saturday to face Empire 8 rival Elmira College.

Match Details

The Pioneers will travel to Oswego, NY Friday for a 4 p.m. afternoon contest against the Lakers at the Oswego State Tennis Courts.  On Saturday, Utica will welcome conference foe Elmira to the UC Courts for a 1 p.m. start in Empire 8 action.

The Pioneers

Utica is presently 0-2 on the season and 0-1 Empire 8 play.  The Pioneers were blanked by Stevens Institute of Technology in the season opener on Sept. 6th in Hoboken, NJ before losing in their home-opener, 7-2, to non-conference rival Wells College.

Laker Report

Oswego is currently 1-2 overall this season including a 0-2 mark in the SUNYAC.  The Lakers were shutout, 9-0, in their first two matches by SUNYAC rivals Geneseo and New Paltz.  Oswego however rebounded with an 8-1 victory over Wells to grab its first win of 2014.

Scouting the Soaring Eagles

Elmira occupies a 2-1 overall ledger so far with wins over Wells and St. John Fisher, both in shutout fashion.  EC's only loss came in its home opener to Empire 8 foe Ithaca by a score of 7-2. In their last nine matches in heads-up play, the Soaring Eagles are a perfect 9-0 versus UC while allowing just four points total.

Back on the Courts

Folowing this weekend, the Pioneers will remain home next week as they welcome The Sage Colleges on Wednesday Sept. 17th. The twilight match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Utica College Tennis Courts.
