UC and Oswego End in a Double Overtime Tie

Utica, NY (September 13, 2014) – The Utica College men's soccer team battled Oswego State Saturday evening in a double overtime thriller that ended in a 0-0 tie at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

UC's overall record moved to 2-1-2 on the season and returns to action Wednesday when it heads to Geneva, NY to face Hobart.  The afternoon contest is set for 4:30 p.m.  The Lakers, now 1-4-1 overall, return home Wednesday to face Wells College at 4 p.m.

The first 45 minutes of play faired quiet for both squads as the shots were even at three each including two apiece on goal. Seniors Anthony Fotino (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) and Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) along with freshman and Connor Reagan (Sanbornton, NH/Bridgton ) registered UC's first half shots while Oswego's Connor Lunduski tallied all three for the visitors.

The action picked up late in the second half with play featuring five yellow cards (3 Utica, Oswego 2) and four corners, two by Utica and two by the visitors.  However, neither team could convert a score. Oswego's Brody Magro fired two off the post with just over four minutes left in regulation but both were deflected away from the net as the contest headed into overtime.

At the end of regulation, Ruffing had a team-high five shots with two on goal while Reagan added three for UC. Utica goalkeeper David Abdou (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied six saves while Oswego's Todd Lawson stopped four shots following the initial 90 minutes.

There was just two shots fired total in extra minutes, both by Oswego,as the contest ended with no score.

With the tie, Utica snapped the Lakers 10 game winning streak dating back to 1992.
