UC Tops SUNYIT in Women's Soccer

Sophomre Sara Kubera had one assist for the Pioneers
Box Score Utica, NY (9/16/14)- The Utica College women's soccer team got back on track Tuesday as it downed host SUNYIT 2-1 in non-conference action.  Senior Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) scored her third game-winner of the year to lift the Pioneers.
 
The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute as Julia Jaiken netted an unassisted tally.  Utica was finally able to find the back of the net at 69:18 when senior Alana Fitzpatrick (Cheshire, CT/Holy Cross) put in a pass from sophomore Sara Kubera (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) to even the score.  Just over ten minutes later, Melley connected with freshman Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) for the eventual game-winner.
 
Junior Kelly Heimerle (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) had five saves in the win, while her counterpart, Angela Bartlett, made nine stops.  Berkowitz led the team with four shots on goal.
 
The Pioneers improve to 4-1-1 on the year.  They return to action Saturday as they travel to Hoboken, NJ for their first Empire 8 contest of the season, against Stevens Institute of Technology.  Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
