Men's Soccer Looks to Get Back on Track Saturday vs. Houghton

Utica, NY (September 19, 2014)- The Utica College men's soccer looks to get back on track this Saturday as they open Empire 8 conference play against Houghton. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers suffered a 4-0 loss to Hobart College on Wednesday afternoon … They were out shot by the Statesmen 19-3 and downed in corner kicks 11-3 … Senior goalie David Abdou (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) played all 90 minutes in the net  for Utica saving a total of six shots. 

LEADING THE WAY: Although senior Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) has not scored in the past three games, he leads the team in points (12) with six goals on the season … Shane currently leads the Empire 8 in points, points per game, goals, and goals per game. 

STAYING ON TOP: Senior Chris Stashko (Apalachin, NY/Apalachin) still holds the number one sport on the Empire 8 conference in assists and assist per game … Senior goalie David Abdou (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) is also holding a number one spot on the conference with the three shutouts on the season.  

REDEMPION: Last year the Pioneers fell short, 1-0, to Houghton on Houghton's home turf … The Pioneers were able to outshoot the Highlanders 5-4, but could not find the back of the net. 

SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS: The Highlanders (3-3) are coming off a 1-0 victory against Medaille … Sophomore Landon Sheaffer leads the Highlanders with five points on nine shots, while senior teammate Jared Toth sits one point behind him with four. 

LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers with host Hamilton College on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
