Utica, NY (9/19/2014)- The Utica College Women's Soccer team looks to get its second straight win as it opens Empire 8 conference play against Stevens Institute of Technology. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Stevens' De Baun Athletic Complex.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers (4-1-1) were able to secure the victory Tuesday evening against cross-town rival, SUNY IT with a final score of 2-1... Senior
Alana Fitzpatrick (Cheshire, CT/Holy Cross) netted one goal from sophomore
Sara Kubera (Utica, NY/Notre Dame), while senior
Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) picked up her third game-winner on the year to lead the Pioneers to victory.
TAKING THE LEAD: Senior defender
Maddisen Melley (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) is leading the team in points with eight on the season... Melley also has three game-winners on the year… Only two points behind Melley sits freshman standout
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's), who has netted six points on the season.
ANCHORING THE DEFENSE: Junior
Morgan Donovan (Farmingdale, NY/Half Hollow Hills East ) has had a key role in stopping opponents on the defensive end... Classmate
Kelly Heimerle (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) has been able to stop 34 shots in the goal with a .829 save percentage ranking her fourth in the Empire 8 conference.
LOOKING FOR THE FIRST WIN: The Pioneers have been unable to beat the Ducks since the teams first meeting 2007... The closest match was in 2007, whens Stevens escaped with a 1-0 victory.
SCOUTING THE DUCKS: The Ducks (3-3) are coming off two losses last week... Stevens was, however, able to put up ten goals so far this season… Sophomore Raba Nassif leads the team with ten points… She netted a career-high four goals against Brooklyn College.
LOOKING AHEAD: UC remains on the road as it travels to Oneonta, NY on Wednesday to take on Hartwick College… The Empire 8 contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
